An introduction from the choir leader:
Where and when does the choir meet?
At present, we meet at St Paul’s Church on Oriental Road: this is opposite the Lion Retail Park (where Lidl and Asda are). We meet on Monday evenings during school term time, from 8.00pm to 9.30pm.
Where do your songs come from?
We draw from a wide variety of sources within Christian Gospel music – so all our material has a Christian perspective. Some material is sourced ready to perform; much is arranged by Daren and/or has a backing track created by him, to which our pianist Nicolas adds live playing (or recorded, for the occasions he can’t join us). Sometimes, songs are completely reworked from the original.
A few examples of songs we’ve used, in case you’d like to look them up:
- Jesus Is
(Natalie Leonhardt), as performed by Anchor Hymns - Living In The Overflow
(Charity Gayle, Joshua Sherman, Desiree Sherman, Steven Musso, Lara Landon and The Emerging Sound) as performed by People & Songs - Holy Water
(Ed Cash, Scott Cash, Franni Cash, Andrew Bergthold, Martin Cash) as performed by We The People - You Brought Me Back To Life
(Brian Eichelberger and Zach Bolen) – our own reworking of this synth-pop Citizens song into a bluesy, upbeat gospel number - What A Friend We Have In Jesus
(Charles Converse and Joseph Scriven) – our slow blues reworking of a classic hymn - When I Was Lost
(Kate & Miles Simmonds) – our reworked choir arrangement of a pop worship song, with a more upbeat gospel feel
What does membership cost?
Aside from your efforts, there is a membership fee which can be paid termly (every four months) or monthly. Currently, membership is £90/term or £23/month. This provides you with access to all our rehearsals and events, and to the learning resources on the website.
There are some members who, for various reasons, cannot commit to regular attendance. While it’s not ideal for the member or the choir, we want to be able to include people where we can and will offer ad-hoc payment on request.
How do I arrange to come to a free taster session?
Firstly, please get in touch via the form at the bottom of our home page. On our home page you’ll also see details of our term dates so you can see when we’re meeting.
